We go live in August. Get that hot tush of yours on the waitlist below to be the first to find out.
you lived it.
Now how the hell do you write about it?
There are so many (SO MANY) stories swirling around in your head. Scenes you can see so clearly. Moments you know will make people gasp. But when you try to put it on the page, it feels:
-
Flat
-
Overwhelming
-
Or like it’s missing... something.
Enter: Love & Mayhem: A course in memoir
In this course, I will show you how to shape those experiences into writing that lands — that is uniquely you while also drawing people in with its relatability.
Please note: This is a course for anyone writing memoir and exploring interpersonal relationships in their writing — not just writers writing about dating. Details, scene setting, crafting page-turning dialogue, we'll get into it all.
Week 1
What Doesn't Kill you... Doesn't kill you
-
WHY are we writing about this? Establishing honesty and intention
-
What's the story you want to tell? Because we all know this is about more than just that one wild night.
-
Choosing what matters vs. what happened
- Moving beyond chronology to significance
Week 2
Main character Energy: This is Your story
-
Who's telling the story? From when?
-
Crafting scenes that pop and lure your reader into the larger narrative
-
Writing about other people
-
Red flags and plot points: what to keep, what to expand, what to ditch, and when to reveal
Week 3
Rebel, Rebel: Breaking up with form, structure, and convention
-
Hermit Crab Essays
-
Interludes, intermissions, and asides
-
Breaking the Fourth Wall
-
Striking a balance with slang, colloquialisms, rants, run-ons, etc.
Week 4
The Heart in Heartbreak — and everything in between
-
Turning your own dark nights of the soul and personal revelations into something universal
-
Avoiding cliché in writing about very written about things like love and heartbreak and other people
-
Crafting conflict and getting into the nitty gritty
-
Being ok with ambiguity and leaving your reader without a tidy bow on endings.
You’ll leave at Least one finished piece and an understanding of how to shape memoir.
